Padmanabhapuram Palace, Kanyakumari

Though located in the Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, the Padmanabhapuram Palace is included in almost all the Kerala tour packages, and is also revered as one of the most gorgeous tourist attractions in Kerala. Located in the town ofPadmanabhapuram, which was once the capital of the Kingdom of Travancore, this historic palace complex is perched at the foot of the captivatingVeli Hills.

Originally built in 1601AD by the then ruler of Venad, IraviVarmaKulasekhara, Padmanabhapuram Palace was later rebuilt in 1750AD by AnizhamThirunalMarthandaVarma. A wooden palace building, it is an epitome of ancient art and architecture. It is decorated with ancient murals, lively paintings, colourful windows, chairs with Chinese carvings, and carved ceiling made of teak wood.
