INTRODUCTION

A perfect place to get acquainted with the rich and diverse history of Kerala, the Kerala Folklore Museum Cochin is a treasure trove for the visitors on a Kerala trip! Though a new name in the list of museums in Kerala; opened in 2009, this historical centre has curated enough attention from the visitors and has become a major tourist attraction since its inception.

The main building complex comprises of three floors and the entire building is built according to typical Malabar architecture. The essence of artistic blends from Cochin and Travancore are also visible in the construction. All the three floors of the Kerala Folklore Museum display and depict different facets of Kerala’s indigenous heritage and cultures.

The first floor of Kerala Folklore Museum comprises of traditional dance attires and is called ‘Kalihattu’. It showcases dresses worn during the performances of Theyyam, Kathakali, Ottanthullal, and Mohiniyattam.The second floor of the building is named as ‘Kanjadalam’, and it has a large collection of ancient murals and wall paintings. Third floor of Kerala Folklore Museum has a theatre that hosts folk stage performances every evening.
